Cultural bonanza, symposiums mark Gandhi Jayanti celebrations

JAMMU, Oct 2: Various colleges and Schools in Jammu city and Kathua celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with zeal and enthusiasm.
At Government College for Women Parade, Jammu, the programme started with lightening of the traditional lamp by Principal and the senior faculty members. To infuse feeling of secularism, a cultural bonanza comprising bhajans, shabad kirtan, naat and sary dharam prathana were presented by the students. The Principal of the College, Dr. Kiran Bakshi, faculty members and large number of students attended the function.. The function concluded with the Principal's address in which she called upon the students to follow Gandhian way of life by adopting the values of truth and non-violence. The programme was compered by Apporva Jamwal, a student of B.A Part-1I.
At Govt Women College, Gandhi Nagar, an Intercollege Quiz competition was organized by Times of India and Nidra in association with Govt Women College, Gandhi Nagar on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti.
The quiz competition which focussed on the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi saw the enthusiastic participation of six teams drawn from Model Institute of Education and Research, MBS College, MAM College, Government Women College Parade, Government Women College GandhiNagar and IMS College. The teams were christened on the values and ideology Gandhi propagated and stood for. The six teams were named Harmony, Peace, Non-Violence, Satyagraha, Swarajya and Swadesh.
Students of GCW Gandhi Nagar clinched the top honour, a trophy and the cash prize while as students of MAM College got the second position.
Meanwhile, the students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology walked the ramp gracefully to showcase their talent and taste of Khadi.
Another attraction of the show was a play ‘Budhi Kaki’ by GCW Gandhi Nagar which was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.
Earlier, the programme started by presenting bouquets to the chief guest and other eminent personalities. ‘Vandana’ by the students of GCW Gandhi Nagar was followed by a welcome address by the Principal of the College Prof Nalini Kohli.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr and Mrs Sudhir Sharma also graced the occasion. The programme concluded on a positive note as all pledged to follow the ideals of Mahatma with a ‘Yes’ to peace and ‘No’ to non-violence.
In its endeavour, My Times of Jammu was supported by Jandiyal opticians, Personal Point, Bulls Eye, 17 Miles Restaurant and JD Institute of Fashion Technology.
To mark the occasion, a Kavi Goshti was presented by the students of Government Degree College, Kathua.
Sanjeev Verma, District Development Commissioner ,Kathua was the chief guest. Dhian Chand, ex-M.L.A along with officers from civil defence wing of Kathua were also present.
Besides the staff and students of the college,the function was also attended by the learned ex-professors and N.S.S volunteers Dr.Ram Krishan,Principal welcomed the guests.
The programme began by lighting of the traditional lamp. Further N.S.S wing of the college also presented its activities to mark its day. The college also donated Rs.22 thousands in the shape of a DD to the deputy commissioner, Kathua relief fund for the flood hit victims of Leh. The college also donated Rs.one lakh to the red cross society and handed over the DD to the chairman,Dy.Commissioner, Kathua.
The chief guest sanjeev verma addressed the audience and applauded the efforts of N.S.S. Volunteers and students of degree college, Kathua for their sincere and well directed efforts.The programme was anchored by prof.Sumanesh Jasrotia and Dr.C.P.Sharma . Among other Retd.Prof.Vijay sharma, Ram Murti,P.D.Sharma, Dhian singh, and vote of thanks preseted by prof. Raj kiran.
A symposium was organized by the students of Govt. College for women , Kathua to mark Gandhi Jayanti. Prof Netar Singh, Principal , GDC Hiranagar was the chief guest on the occasion. He expressed his views on the life and philosophy of Gandhi.and also enlightened the students to follow his footsteps in today modern life. Principal Dr.A.K.Malhotra in his welcome address also threw light on the philosophy Gandhi ji and its relevance in present era. The jury members were Prof Moni Mehra, Prof Usha Bhagat and Prof. Tripti Sharma. Kanika Sharya , Noopar Sharya and Shivani Pathania stood second and third respectively. The proceedings were conducted by Prof. Sourabh Shastri and vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Shalika Gupta.

Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Mubarak Mandi, Jammu also celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in a function held here today. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal was the chief guest on the occasion . The function was presided by the Director School Education Zahida Khan .

NSS Units of GGM Sc. College (Both Morning and Evening Shift) paid rich review to Father of Nation and Former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birthday. All NSS Volunteers gathered in College Campus and take out Parbhat Pheri passes through different locations i.e. Canal Head, Bakshi Nagar, Bus Stand, Jewel Chowk and culminated back to College. Later on volunteers highlight various aspect of Gandhiji and Shastri Ji. After that Volunteers were divided into various groups to discuss about the ‘Role of Gandhian Philosophy in Present Scenario”. Dr. M.S. Baloria (Principal, GGM Sc. College) said that youth should follow the path of Non-voilence and truth and also stress that they should follow the principal of Gandhiji’s life. During the group discussion, various headsof groups present their view about said topic.

An inter-house quiz competition was organized by the Nav Adarsh Sr. Higher Secondary School Kathua in the premises of the school to celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the former prime minister of India Late. Lal Bahadur Shastri and paid holy homage to them by the school staff and guests. On the occasion the four houses named Gandhi house, Patel House, Nehru House and Indira House were participated in quiz competition in which the Gandhi house clinched first position, second by Patel house, third by Nehru and fourth by Indira house. On the occasion the chief education officer Kuldeep Kumar Gupta was the chief guest accompanied by other dignitaries DPO Dhantar Singh and Rtd SP Sh. Sardar Khan as guests of honour appreciated the arrangement of great quiz programme to celebrate and said that it is wonderful way to celebrate the birth anniversary of our two great national leader who dedicated themselves for the cause of society and played unforgettable role to get the freedom of the country from the bloody hands of British rulers peacefully and democratically.

To celebrate the birth anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi, JK Montessorie Sec Secondary School organised a peace rally today.

Childeren of the school along with Managing Director Sanjeev Gupta, Director Rajni Gupta, Principal ML Vaid , Vice Principal Gita Dixit and other staff members participated in the rally . Pof. Chaman Lal Gupta was the chief guest on the occasion.

Sri Ranbir Memorial Higher Secondary School Parade Ground, Jammu today organised a function to celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at school premises where Principal SIE/ Jt Dir ( Trainings ) was the chief guest .
