| Handicrafts Dev Corp. to organize expos in New York, Germany | | Sale target of Rs 13.50 crore for current year. | | Srinagar Oct 28: In order to provide better marketing facilities to the artisans of the State, two expos are being organized in New Yark and Germany for which necessary sanction has already been accorded. Another three such expos to be held in Dubai, South Africa and UK are also in pipe line and the sanction in this regard is expected soon. These expos are being sponsored by Union Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with J&K Handicrafts Development Corporation (HDC). This was stated at a high level meeting presided over by Chairman, HDC, Haji Abdul Rasheed here today. Among others, Managing Director, HDC, Mr. G.N.Naiko and other senior officers of the corporation were present. Haji Rasheed dwelt on the measures taken to improve the functioning of the corporation and said that a sale target of Rs.13.50 crore has been fixed for 22 out lets of the corporation for the current financial year. He said a renovation programme has been launched for Chandigarh, Jammu and Srinagar branches at a cost of around Rs.1 crore. During the next year, the corporation intends to renovate Delhi, Kolkotta and Amritsar branches. He said the expos are aimed at providing an opportunity to the artisans of the State to sell their handicrafts and artefects at the international level. He said exhibitions are also being held in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmadabad and Hyderabad during the coming months and it is expected that good sales would be achieved. Haji Rashed said that the corporation has introduced a website which will be fully functional within one month while more show rooms are being opened in metropolitan cities of the country in a phased manner. He said to boost sales the corporation intends to introduce credit facility to its customers in collaboration with ICICI bank.
