IGP chairs Police- Public meet | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 3: To curb crime from society and to strengthen the communal harmony, a police-public meet was held at Channi Himmat where in hundreds of the residents of the locality took part. The meet was chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Ashok Kumar Gupta. Barring minor complaints of undue delay in issuance of character certificates and verification of passport in favour of the applicants, the residents of the area expressed overall satisfaction over the working of police. IGP listened to the problems of the people patiently and said that without proper verification of the person applying for passport it was not possible to give no objection certificate. However, as far as character certificate is concerned, he said, instructions are given to the police staff to provide the same as soon as possible. IGP Gupta also thanked people for eulogizing police’s work. IGP also expressed gratitude to the people for maintaining communal harmony with regard to verdict on Babri Masjid title suit and stressed them to adhere with the same. The locals appreciated police’s efforts for organizing sports events, curtailment of crime and inculcating moral values amongst the youth particularly students by organizing seminars and other cultural programmes.
