War on people could make things worse: Mehbooba
10/3/2010 10:03:19 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 3: Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti has said the government is pushing the state into further anarchy and chaos by its vengeful attitude towards the citizens.
Commenting on the continued use of force against peaceful citizens, Mehbooba said in a statement the policy of punishing entire population for no reason could result in unimaginable fallout.
She condemned shooting down of youth, including a woman at Nagbal of Zainpora area
in Shopian today by forces for their fault of resisting crackdown. She said the
government had brought back the horrifying memories of NC’s earlier stint in
power by resuming harassment and dishonouring of civilians.
Endorsing the right of peaceful protest of the people against assault on their
liberties, security and dignity Mehbooba said by declaring a war on people the
government was only making prospects of peace and normalcy bleak. No self-respecting people, she cautioned could be deprived of their rights by brute force and muzzling of their voice.
Strongly objecting to uninterrupted curfew and undeclared restrictions, Mehbooba
said it seems the government was drawing a sadistic pleasure out of humiliating,
hurting and punishing the people. She said it seems government has finally
decided to formally wind up all options of normal governance, civilized
behaviour, legal methods and political approach and hold on to force for
subjugating the people.
She said the party will continue to use its democratic position to raise issues of the people and initiation of action against the killers of 110 people was the minimum that the government must do to restore credibility of democratic institutions and system. The government must also restrain forces and stop using curfew as a tool of collective punishment, she stressed.
