NC hold convention at Reasi

Jammu, Oct 3: A day long convention of National Conference of District Reasi was held under the chairmanship of district president and former minister Jagjeevan Lal, Rattan Lal Gupta, provincial president was the chief guest and the convention was addressed among others by Laxmi Dutta, president women’s wing Jammu, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Ex-MLC, Kashmir Singh and S. Peter.
During the deliberations districts working committee members, block presidents and delegates who gathered from remote areas of Gool-Gulabgarh, Mahore, Arnas, Chasana and Bhimag area raised their day to day problems and organizational issues. Some valuable suggestions and resolutions also emerged in the discussion and the resolutions were passed unanimously in the session. The main resolution in delegates unanimously passed a resolution demanding raising of amount paid to the destitute widows, old age poor people, poor and down trodden people in various schemes under social welfare department. The resolution added that rise of prices of essential commodities and health care have gone beyond control and the amount which is provided to the beneficiaries under these schemes is very meager as such the amount should be enhanced so that it gives some succor to the beneficiaries.
The delegates also demanded that unemployed educated youth should be absorbed in remote areas of this district on war footings so that they can sustain life.
Addressing the convention Gupta, endorsed the resolutions passed by the workers in the convention and said the coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah is determined to uplift remote and hilly areas of the state on priority. At the same time the government is very much aware about the problems of the urban areas and semi urban areas.
He called upon the delegates be prepared for the forthcoming panchayat and local body elections which are already over due. He advised them to field honest and dedicated people for these basic democratic units so that panchayati raj moves fast smoothly to mitigate the day to day problems of the people of their respective areas.
While addressing the meeting Luxmi Dutta, said that women folk of this remote district has no work very hard to identify women candidates in panchayats as the government has reserved 33% seats for them.
Jagjeevan Lal in his address apprised the provincial president Gupta about the administrative and political problems being faced by the people of Reasi. He said certain forces are determined to disturb peace in these areas also on one pretext or the other but the people of Reasi district are wise enough to understand their game plan and frustrate their nefarious designs. He complimented the role of the people of area to maintain communal harmony and brother hood despite so many provocations.
