Art of living organizes interfaith summit on HIV at Bangluri | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 3: A two day interfaith summit on HIV, organized by the art of living, in Banglore concluded last week. AIDS had no relivion and is human challenge that needed to be tackled in a humanitarian way by rooting out stigma attached to the disease and finding means to spread awareness about its prevention, care and treatment, religious leaders of various faith concluded at the conclave. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said, “Stigma and discrimination remain the biggest hurdles in getting the access to treatment. Those living and affected by HIV should not be condemned as sinners who are paying for their sins but rather to be talked about it in a non judge mental manner and in a positive way. It was overwhelming to see organizations like Karnataka state AIDS prevention society (KSAPS), heros project, international network of religious leaders living with or personally affected by HIV and AIDS (Inerela+) and Asian interfaith network on HIV/AIDS, India (AINA-India) with technical support from UNAIDS, UNICEF, USAID and AIDS Prevention and control project- voluntary health services (APAC-VHS) join the initiative to eradicate this stigma from the society. The summit was an attempt to bring together religious leaders, who often shied away from the topic, he said. “Religious leaders have a good sway over people and people follow what they say. If these leaders took up this issue, their followers were bound to get inspired by their talks and treat AIDS/ HIV persons with more compassion and sensitivity,” he said.
