'Abandoned 1964, 1975 accords are viable solution of Kashmir turmoil' | Congress habitual of ditching NC: MLA Muastfa Kamal | | sumit sharma EARLY TIMES REPORT Terming that the abandoned accords of 1964 and 1975 are viable solution of Jammu and Kashmir (Kashmir) turmoil, MLA Hazratbal Mustafa Kamal, son of former Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir-Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and stalwart of National Conference said until Centre Government gives its nod for the resumption of the same or NC is given a clear cut mandate by the people in the next Assembly elections , the turmoil in Kashmir will continue. In a brief interaction with the ET correspondent Mustafa said that a complete solution of the problem lay in Ayub-Abdullah talks which were abandoned abruptly in 1964 due to sudden death of former Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. He further said the incomplete Indira-Sheikh accord of 1975 needs to be revitalized and threads picked up from there for viable solution to the Kashmir turmoil without which bitterness and deep suspicion will continue to govern the relations between India and Pakistan in such a scenario. Giving details on what he terms as vital historical perspective , Mustafa Kamal said Sheikh Abdullah on behalf of then Prime Minister of India Jawahar La1 Nehru went t o Pakistan in 1964 within weeks of his release from prison on dropping the Kashmir conspiracy case against him and others by the then J &K Government headed by late Ghulam Mohammad, Sadiq to meet the then President of Pakistan Ayub Khan in a bid to arrange a meeting on behalf of then Prime Minister of India Nehru Gandhi but before the accord was to be completed, Nehru passed away. Again in 1975, he said, a bid was made to resume the same by then PM Indira Gandhi and Sheikh Abdullha but before it could be completed, Indira Gandhi was assassinated. Unforunately , the issue was buried with the elapse of time, Mustafa Kamal, Uncle of Omar Abdullah narrated, adding in the same breath that until Pakistan was not convinced by India to have friendly relation with it there is little scope for restoration of normalcy in the state. He termed separatists as puppets of external forces who are misleading people by selling the dream of Azadi. Firing salvos against the Congress the NC stalwart said that the party is habitual of ditching NC on every front. Lambasting over MP Madan Lal's statement that next three years shall have CM from Congress, something which that has been repeatedly uttered by former Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram as well, who claims that CM would be of Jammu, Kamal said all these assertions are only indicative, rather pointing towards another ditch, which the Congress has been doing since 1953 when Sheikh Abdullaha was thrown out of the government by Congress. He said that no such agreement was done with the Congress when the coalition was formed. Substantiating his point, Kamal said Congress is placed too well in the present coalition in which majority of the Congress MLAs have been given ministry with important portfolios though it has 16 elected representatives while as NC has 28.This is a fact known to everyone. He further said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah prepared a file and was all set to expose Rs 22 crore Wakf Board scam, done by previous Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led PDP- Congress coalition government, in the previous assembly session but his hands were tied by Congress. Making a scathing attack on PDP, the NC leader, also a former minister, said that the Mughal Road Project and other initiatives of historical significance , Opening of trade with the PoK were finalized by the Sheikh Abdullah fifteen years back but PDP resorted to tactics to befool people, making desperate bid to keep the achievements in their pockets and take credit for everything, he said adding that people are too wise and sane to get through such tactics. |
