Miran Sahib GMRTF dying a slow death
10/4/2010 9:53:18 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 4: On one hand the state government is claming to provide thousands of jobs to the unemployed youths of the state in the coming months but on the other side already established jobs has been ceased to exist just by the negligent attitude of the state government.
One such example is closed Government Modern Rosin and Turpentine Factory (GMRTF), Miran Sahib, R S Pura, Jammu which is suffering due to indifferent attitude of state and union government.
This factory was installed in 1938 and started working in 1939 and was closed in 2005 on the pretext of non availability of raw material, mainly ‘nectar’ of Pine trees. There are hundreds of thousands of Pine trees in the state.
Machines worth crores of rupees are lying in the Miran Sahib complex and gathering dust due to non-functioning.
The factory has more than 200 employees at the time of closing and at present there are 115 employees in the factory having combined monthly salary in a tune of 7 lakhs with no work. They are also being deprived of other allowances as well. In between the period of 2005-2010 more than 100 employees got retirement. The state government is planning “Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS)” for the remaining employees.
It is important to mention here that there are two more factories of same kind in Sunderbani and Fatehpur, Rajouri, who also got closed in 2005 due to same reason and at present all the workers are doing fourth class job in other government departments.
The workers at the Miran Sahib informed here that they used to come to the factory from 8.30 am to 5 pm but they have nothing to do. The government is paying the workers for no work and should transfer to other places so that they could perform some duties as they have nothing to do in the present place. These workers are working here for more than 10 years.
Workers said that they protested many times as their salaries are delayed from 2006 onwards and at present also their four month salary was pending and they were also not getting any benefit of 6th pay commission. They alleged that the government was paying no heed on their problem.
