In pursuit towards fostering closer relationship between locals and Army | Sadhbhavna tour at Budhal flagged off | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Budhal, Oct 4: An Educational tour for youth of the far flung border areas of Rajouri and Reasi district was conducted by Rashtriya Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Counter Insurgency Force (Uniform). The tour consisted of 25 youth from Rajouri and Reasi districts. The tour was flagged off at Budhal by officiating commander, 14 Sector Rashtriya Rifles on Oct 4. The tour had its first halt at Kolkota, where they visited Nakhoda Masjid (Zakariya Street), West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Ravindra Setu (Howrah Bridge), Vidya Sagar Setu, Victoria Memorial, St Pauls Cathedral, Dakshineswar Temple & Belur Math, Science City, Birla Planetarium, Botanical Garden, Zoological Garden, Indian Museum and had a Ride on Tram & Metro. The tour then started off for Siliguri, their next destination. They interacted with GOC 33 Corps and visited Madhuban Park, Iscon Temple and Mahananda wild life sanctuary. After that they proceeded to Gangtok and visited Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology on their way. They then visited Hanuman Tok, Ganesh Tok, Enchey Monastery, Do-Drul Chorten Stupa, Flower Exhibition Centre, Ridge park and White Hall complex, Orchid Sanctuary, Kanchanjiungha view point & Himalayan Zoological Park. From Gangtok they moved on to Kalimpong and visited Gauripur (House of the Great Bengali Poet Ravindra Nath Tagore), Zong Dhog Palri Fo Brang Monestary, Mangal Dham & Science Centre. The tour culminated with a visit to the “Queen of hills”, Darjeeling, where they visited the Rock Garden, Art Gallery, Buddha Statue, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Zoological Garden, and viewed the sunrise from Tiger Hills, after which they had a ride on the Toy Train & Rope way. They also witnessed the Sunset view of Kanchenjunga. The GOC-in-C Eastern Command urged the youth to spread the message of importance of education when they returned home. He also emphasized that they should strive to become good citizens. They also met Mr KN Uprati, Education Minister of Sikkim and senior army officers at Siliguri, Gangtok and Kalimpong. The touring youth were felicitated by various army formations enroute to instill a feeling of belongingness. The successful completion of the tour has resulted in fostering closer relationship between the locals and the Army. It has also developed a deep sense of belonging for the nation in the hearts of these youth of remote areas. This project will help the Army to generate better trust and goodwill amongst the masses besides winning their hearts and minds.
