Army rehabilitates villages affected by flash floods | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Oct 4: As part of Operation Sadbhavana, Army distributed a huge quantity of relief material to villages of Maiyan, Kathal, Muqam Piran, Hil Pathri and Bararipura, where flash floods resulting from a cloud burst on July 27 last had led to a large scale devastation The villagers were overwhelmed by army’s continuous help and effort in rehabilitating the families affected by the nature’s fury. A large number of houses, bridges, crops and cattle had got washed away rendering the villagers shelter less and without the basic amenities. The army unit deployed at Bararipura had immediately swung into action to provide immediate succour to the villagers in the form of tents, food grains and emergency medicines. Subsequently, the General Officer Commanding, Dagger Division had also met the villagers on August 31 and in addition to providing financial help, had promised to pursue the issue through the civil administration to address their grievances and problems. Delivering by action, the General Officer Commanding, Dagger Division along with the District Collector, Baramulla once again visited Ghoretal area today, as part of a joint army and civilian administration venture, to meet the locals and lend a helping hand. Several army officers and local civil administration officials were also present on the occasion. The venture was attended by a large gathering of villagers from the affected areas. The villagers were full of praise for the army and thanked it for the prompt assistance during the flash floods.
