NC leader held with 580 cement bags at Bari Brahmana | Minister allegedly tries to hush up the case | | SUMIT SHARMA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 5: A National Conference (NC) leader and income tax lawyer was today arrested by the crime branch (CB) of state police for allegedly using Ambuja cement, which was not for retail sale, in the construction of a multi-storey business complex at Bari Brahmana. A total of 580 cement bags were allegedly seized by the CB sleuths in an early morning raid on the under construction complex of NC president for Samba district Mohinder Pal Gupta, son of Prakash Chand Gupta, of ward No 2, Bari Brahmana, CB sources said. As Mohinder was said to be the close confidant of a NC cabinet minister, the latter allegedly tried to use his influence to get Gupta released, but CB had already registered a case against him, the sources added. Sources said the raid led the CB sleuths to the alleged recovery of about 580 Ambuja cement bags which had unauthorisedly been dumped by Gupta for the construction of a business complex by him. The bags were actually meant for institutional and industrial consumers only and their sale in retail, or for the construction of private complexes was illegal, sources said. The bags were seized and Gupta arrested, the sources added, saying the raid was conducted by a CB team led by DSP Abdul Wahid Giri. A case was registered against him under FIR No 23/2010, and sections 409, 420 and 120-B of RPC and 3/7 of essential commodities Act.Sources said the raid was conducted on a tip-off that the owner of Indo Steel Industries, Jammu, had been selling the cement illegally for private purposes. A case was also registered against the owner of the Indo Steel Industries. Some more arrests were expected in the case, the sources added.
