Warrants issued against 2 PDP leaders in defamation case
Dr Fayaz Shawl also served warrant

Srinagar, Oct 5: The Court of Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar, B.L. Bhat today issued bailable warrants against two PDP leaders MLA, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat and Nayeem Akhtar Indrabi in the defamation case of filed by the state Government. The two leaders had allegedly accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of receiving kickbacks in the allotment of a power project in the state.
A court here today issued warrants against 2 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in the defamation case filed by Jammu and Kashmir government after the duo allegedly accused Chief Minister of receiving kickbacks in the allotment of a power project in the state.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar BL Bhat today issued bailable warrants against PDP MLA Nizamuddin Bhat and party spokesman Nayeem Akhtar after taking cognizance of the case filed by the government on September 29.
"Cognizance is accordingly taken of offences under section 500 Ranbir Penal Code against the accused. Let a bailable warrant in an amount of Rs 20,000 each be levied against the accused and sent for execution to IGP Kashmir," the judge ruled in his order today.However, the next hearing of the case has been fixed for October 20.
In another case of a similar nature filed on behalf of Minister of State for Urban Development Nasir Aslam Wani, the court has issued a bailable warrant against noted cardiologist Fayaz Shawl and sent the same for execution to IGP Kashmir.
The government filed the suit against the two PDP leaders for levelling "false and baseless" accusations against Omar that he received kickbacks to the tune of Rs 500 crore.
It may be mentioned that chief minister had sent a legal notice to Nizam-u-Din Bhat and Nayeem Akhtar saying they should give a public apology and withdraw the charges within seven days, failing which legal action would be taken against them.
The PDP leaders chose not to apologise.The case against Dr Fayaz Shawl was filed for levelling charges of corruption against Minister of State for Urban Development Nasir Aslam Wani.
