Lone refutes 'statement' on Durbar Move Soz intervenes quickly to 'save' Cong position | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 5: Amidst the circumstances which are far from normal in terms of political uncertainty and the situation in Kashmir, the Congress, a major ally of ruling coalition could have found itself in trouble but for timely intervention of the veteran PCC chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz who not only 'cleared the air of confusion' immediately but also 'prevented' the issue from taking any controversial contours. It was the statement of newly appointed Pradesh Youth Congress president Shoaib Lone regarding Durbar Move carried by some media during the day which was quickly washed away by the PCC President, knowing well the statement could have wider implications not only the relations between the coalition partners but within the party itself. Shoaib Lone was stated in the media as having said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should defer the annual practice of shifting Darbar to Jammu in view of unrest in Valley. The Youth Congress leader was further quoted as having said that if such arrangement was not possible , the government should let some administrative officers, staff move to winter capital and that CM along with his council of ministers should stay back in Valley. Shoaib Lone when contacted, however, dismissed all this saying he has been completely misquoted and misunderstood by the concerned media. " I never used the deferment and did not at all mean any deviation from the annual tradition of Darbar Move ……this is a totally vague statement which I never made…..," Lone said adding that he knows well Darbar Move was in the overall interests of the state. The PYC further said he, without uttering the word defer said CM's and ministers' presence in Kashmir was imperative in view of the prevailing situation and sufferings of the people. "I know CM and ministers can stay or frequently visit Kashmir even if Darbar moves to Jammu ……..so there was no point in asking Darbar permanently staying back in Valley", Lone clarified. Even as Lone made these clarifications, it was the timely intervention of the President Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee Prof. Saifuddin Soz (MP) which saved the matter from taking any ugly turn in so far its implications in Jammu region were concerned. In his statement , Soz , while negating what was being portrayed as having the views of the Congress party as an ally of coalition, said that Darbar Office should move to Jammu this year as per schedule. Without referring to anyone or the statement made by any Congress leader, PCC President said that the Darbar should move to Jammu as per past tradition and this year also the office in Srinagar should close in the end of October and reopen in Jammu in first week of November, as scheduled by the government. Most significant part of the statement is his assertion that there is no question of Congress seeking deferment of Darbar Move practice in the state. It is pertinent to mention here that the statement came a day after the state government announced its schedule of Darbar Move in which it has been mentioned that offices will close in Srinagar on October 29 and re-open in Jammu in first week of November, a normal calendar is being adhered to every year. |
