Tarigami for enhancing financial assistance to poor, destitute | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 6: CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Kulgam today cornered government on paying very meager financial assistance to the beneficiaries under Old Age Pension and other social security schemes in the state. Raising the issue during zero hour in the assembly today, the legislator termed the financial support to the poor and destitute as a cruel joke, especially in the present era of high price escalation. He pleaded for substantial increase in the financial assistance or else, he said the government should wind up the schemes. Tarigami also pleaded for enhancing the honorarium to anganwari workers and helpers also, saying these functionaries are playing multi-dimensional role at grass root levels. He said most of the states have already increased their remuneration in view of the quantum hike in the prices of food grains and other essential commodities. The legislator reminded the government of its assurance held out in the floor about increasing the honorarium of Anganwari workers and helpers during the previous session.
