Mushtaq Kak shines in internationally acclaimed film “I am Megha” | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 6: Mushtaq Kak, prominent theatre director and film actor from J&K State is creating ripples across the globe “I am Megha’. The film directed by Onir and produced jointly by Sanjay Suri and Onir has bagged an award for ‘outstanding contribution on issues related to gender and human rights’ at its New York world premiere at Engendered Film Festival. The story of a Hindu girl and her Muslim friend is what makes this film a third in the series that Onir and friend producer Sanjay Suri have started. “I am Megha” is inspired by the harsh reality faced by scores of Kashmiri Pandits who were forcefully made to leave the valley in the 90’s, and thereby made to live as refugees in their own country. Juhi Chawla is enacting the role of the Kashmiri Pandit girl who leaves her hometown for further studies. On her return, she finds her best friend, Manisha Koirala, a Muslim girl living in her home. Things have changed since Juhi has gone and the film tries to capture the changes in the valley through the friendship of these two girls. The film will be released in India later this year. Mushtaq Kak has enacted a significant role in the film, which has received unqualified appreciation from viewers and critics alike. Mushtaq has already created a niche for himself in the film industry and has acted in the film “Hijack” as main villain and in “Sikandar” as an actor and also Kashmir consultant and trainer. Besides this, he has also acted in the Canadian film “Amal” produced by Poor Productions, Vancouver. Mushtaq Kak is a theatre director with an experience of 20 years in active theatre. He is recipient of the Best Director awards for Andha Yug, Mallika, and Pratibimb and has directed more than 100 plays till date. Mushtaq Kak has been the Artistic Director of Shri Ram Centre of Performing Arts for nine years and is recipient of Mahindra and Mahindra Award for Excellence in Theatre. Of his plays, Mahabrahman, Alladad, Kasturi Mrig and Chekhov in my life were adjudged best plays of Delhi for the years 1999, 2000, 2003 and 2005 respectively.
