KCC flouting JKCA norms | | | Nagender Jamwal Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 6: Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), consisting of thirty clubs in which one of the club Kashmir Cricket Club (KCC), selected the players in their own interest and not per as per rule. KCC president and former J&K Cricket Association General Secretary M L Nehru had asked them to follow the JKCA rules for the formation of selection committee in the KCC. Nehru said that selection of players for the National Tournaments 2010-2011 is being started by General Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) office bearers are the most important and the most pious one. He further said that every deserving cricketer repose trusts faith in the process of selection which would be followed by the office bearers. Adherence to laid down and mandatory rules of formation of valid and authorized selection committees by the competent authority is the first litmus test, he added. He stressed that as per the rule 8 (iv) (e) of JKCA it is only the working committee which can form a selection committee. No office bearer can as such nominate the members of the selection committee. He added that it is the general secretary and none else who can convene the selection committee meetings without himself voting rights in the meeting. He expects that no bias of any sort of provincial, club, religion, caste or creed is allowed to influence the thinking of a selector and that the selectors appointed by the working committee are competent senior cricketers of repute and that they stand answerable to the working committee for their actions. He said that if selection committee members are nominated by any office bearer, (however senior), they cannot be accepted to have been appointed by a competent authority and thus are always deemed to be under the influence of that office bearer who has nominated him. He further stressed that there is no reason why laid down the rules should be followed and why the working committee should be deprived of performing its duties and exercising its powers provided under rule . Nehru said that general secretary whose signature under various teams are supposed to represent JKCA is supposed to recognize and send only those teams which consists of only those players selected under rule and not those who are selected by unauthorized selectors. He reminded that BCCI of which JKCA is an affiliated Unit, is also bound to accept only such JKCA representative teams which have been selected under proper JKCA rules and not by selectors unauthorized nominated by the office bearers and affiliation with the BCCI is also based on JKCA rules. Nehru would like to say that no means above his views should be constructed to be against any selector who may have been appointed by some of his bearers of JKCA. The only thing he would to stress that if selectors are appointed under accepted mandatory rules, their stature and functioning would be more honorable and dignified.
