Wild cat scare in Samba hills | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 6: The people of hilly areas of district Samba are living under constant fear to their lives and also of their livestock as from past few days a leopard is frequently visiting the forests adjoining their villages. The leopard has also taken the toll of the many domestic animals including bovines. The worst hit villages by the terror of the leopard are Ganger, Bhupnergarh, Janda, Dher Ghar, and Janda Gujjar in the hilly area of district Samba. Prominent citizen of the area and president Kissan Union Karan Singh, while talking here said that this wild animal attacks many people and pets of the villages. Due to deforestation, many wild animals are entering in the villages. He further said that many animals who fall prey to the beast that included a cow owned by Karnail Singh of village Lehri, a horse owned by Raj Singh of village Janda, a goat of Kaku Bhagat and Makodu of village Sarian and a calf owned by Pritam Singh of village Lehri besides others. Kissan union leader also said that the people of the villages visited offices of the wild life department in this connection but got only assurances from them. He demanded the compensation from the state government and also said that the leopard should be catched as soon as possible. Deputy Commissioner Samba, Mubarak Singh, when contacted said that the case was not in his notice, now that matter has come into his knowledge he would hold enquiry about the reported incidents. He also assured of his positive intervention.
