JKIL facing huge losses
10/6/2010 8:55:43 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 6: Jammu Kashmir Industries Limited, a state owned company formed in 1963 having 16 manufacturing units, is in doldrums and facing huge losses.
It was formed to attain self sufficiency and employment generation and for processing and manufacturing of Textiles, Knitwears/Hosiery, Joinery and Furniture products as well as Silk (Plain and Printed) fabrics, besides Rosin and Turpentine
Industrial scenario in the state particularly in the Jammu region of the state is in doldrums condition as J&K state is considered as industrially backward state of the country, despite this the state government is doing nothing concrete to upgrade the level of the industries of the state.
As there are many public factories which were established to manufacture and administer the State Industrial Undertaking in a manner that would ensure their economical working but at present there are many of them which got closed due to negligent attitude of the state government.
There are many factories which are not in working condition till this time which included Govt R&T Factory, Sunderbani established in 1974, Govt R&T Factory Rajouri established in 1974, Joinery Mills Bari Brahmana Jammu established in 1975 and Shoddy Spinning Mills established in 1995. Government Rosin and Turpentine Factory, Miran Sahib Jammu was established in 1939 and closed on 2005 due to same reason.
All these factories have hundreds of employees, but closed on the pretext of non- availability of raw material and in some cases for absence of suitable market.
These employees are either given Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) or coming in their respective working place without salaries for months together.
It is pertinent to mention here that the employees of the factories have been protesting for many years to revive the sick units, but there is no one to concede to their demands and status quo has been maintained by the both sides.
