| CM ORDERs PROBE in clandestine TRANSFER OF LAND TO PRIVATE PARTIES | | |
Srinagar , Oct 29 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today ordered State Vigilance Organisation to probe the clandestine transfer of land to different private parties by the Flood Control and Revenue departments for construction of hotels and other establishments. The matter caught CM's attention after he noticed a construction coming up on the left-bank of river Jehlum, right to the Srinagar's Abdullah Bridge. The piece of land is a part of basin area of Jehlum and any constructions in this area are prohibited. Well placed sources revealed that the whole stretch of basin land that falls to the right and left of Abdullah Bridge has been transferred to different private parties despite the fact that the state government during Mufti Mohammed Syeed's tenure had launched a 'Save Jehlum' programme. One of the beneficiary parties has started construction of a hotel on the piece of land to the left of the Abdullah Bridge . The construction came as a surprise to the state administration that is busy preparing for the opening of secretariat in Jammu . "I have ordered State Vigilance Organisation to enquire how this stretch of land has been transferred to different private parties and identify the officials responsible for the clandestine transfer," Azad told a select group of journalists here today. Sources said that the alleged transfer of land is handiwork of the officials of Flood Control, Revenue in connivance with the beneficiary private parties and the deal involves hefty sums of money.
