| Navratra Festival highlights tourism potential, showcases the rich cultural heritage of Jammu: Div Com | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, October 7: The Annual Navratra Festival - 2010 will be held from 8th to 16th October, 2010. Announcing this at a press conference here today the Divisional commissioner, Jammu who is also the Chairman of the Navratra Festival Organizing Committee said that the nine-day festival, which is organized jointly by the Department of Tourism, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), District Administration, Katra Municipality and local Hospitality Industry, would be inaugurated by. Tara Chand, Deputy Chief Minister, J at Katra.
The Navratra Festival started 15 years ago has with the passage of time attained national prominence and become a leading event for highlighting the tourism potential and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Jammu region. \
Katra, which is the base for the pilgrimage to the Holy Shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi, will be decked up and decorated during the nine days festivities.
Leading corporate houses and devotees of the Mata are also sponsoring some of the activities to be undertaken during the Festival.
15 sub-committees have been constituted to make necessary arrangements in connection with the Navratra Festival - 2010. The events that will be the highlights of this year's celebrations at Katra would include inauguration of the Festival at Katra on 8th October, followed by. Shoba Yatra cum Cultural Procession of troupes and tableaux exhibiting culture and traditions of Jammu. Besides all India devotional songs competition will be held at Yoga Ashram Grounds.
This event will have contestants from different parts of the country that will go through different stages of the competition. The grand finale will be held on the 16th October,. The winner will be rewarded with a prize of 1.00 lac in gold coins of the Goddess, which will be given by the SMVDSB.
The Song and Drama Division, will organize cultural items, which will be performed by artists from the state and different parts of the country every day. Magic Shows have also been included in this year's programme
Sermons on the Ramayan / Bhagwat Gita will be delivered by the eminent religious scholars at Raghunath Mandir daily
Besides there would be a long unending display of various cultural and heritage activities which would include, wrestling competetion, exhibition of departmental stalls, Cultural Programmes by School Children, Rally on Environment and Awareness
Besides the events at Katra and Reasi the Tourism Department along with the District Administration, Jammu will be organizing events in Jammu so as to widen the reach of the Navratra Festival and highlight the other tourist destination of the region. The events will that take place at different places in Jammu would include Heritage Walk by school children from Ambaran to the Jio-Potha Ghat, Akhnoor, illumination of the shrines,fort and the Chenab river front, Akhnoor, Arti of river Chenab, Akhnoor, Arti at Hari-ki-Paudi.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the nine days event.
The Valedictory Function of the Navratra Festival will be held on 16th October, at the Yoga Ashram Grounds after the conclusion of All India Devotional Song Com petition.
