Among 6000 doctors, we got only 50: PPRF | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Oct 7: Although 6000 doctors have passed out from Government Medical College. Jammu since its establishment in 1972, Pir Panjal region has got only one per cent share with not more than 60 doctors. This was disclosed by newly floated Pir Panjal Regional Forum in its document prepared for submission to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The document revealed that J&K Medical college was established as back as in 1962 at Srinagar and a separate Medical college for Jammu in 1972 and alone Jammu medical college has produced 6000 doctors among them only fifty passed out belonging to region spreading from Bhamla to Mandi and Poonch to Mahore. Forum President Engineer Liaqet Choudhary said that the area has been ignored on all fronts by the successive governments and there is unrest among the youth for not getting any opportunity in the educational and professional institutions besides they are being ignored in the government jobs. He said that the Pir Panjal region has been lagging behind all other regions of J&K State on every field. “Be it education employment, health, communication facilities or reprentation in state cabinet or bureaucracy. After 63 years of Independence when we gauge the development made in this region vis – a vis Jammu or Srinagar region we come to conclusion that we been given only pea-nuts”, he added. Choudhary said that the forum has therefore been launched to address the aspirations of the people of this region. “We are going to aware common masses of the region vis – a- vis their democratic rights”, he said adding that they have charted out their memorandum of demands for submission to the government. Highlighting the demands, he said that Pir Panjal region consisting of District Rajouri, District Poonch and Sub- Division Mahore and the same be declared as province of the J&K state with a separate Divisional Commissioner and Inspector General of Police. He added that there is dire need of Pir Panjal University which should be opened in the region so that equal of opportunities appointment of Education are made available to the students of the region. “We have also demanded separate Medical, Engineering, Agriculture, Veterinary college in the area, and separate directorates of every department so that equal opportunities are available to the people of the region in every sector of Development”. The Forum has also mentioned in his demands that a separate Lok Sabha seat be assigned to the Pir Panjal region as the same has a population of 10 Lacs souls while as Ladakh seat represent only two lacs souls being a distinct unit.
