PG Arts win by 13 runs to enter semis

JAMMU, October 07: A splendid knock of 31-ball 60 runs by Rajat Sharma wasted after Mahant Bachiter Singh (MBS) College of Engineering lost to the combined side of PG Arts by 13 runs in the ongoing inter-college cricket tournament on the campus here today.
With today’s win, PG Arts has become the first side to reach the semi-finals stages of the tournament.
Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, PG Arts set a big target f 180 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, MBS could make only 166 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the given 20 overs.
Chander Kiran was top scorer with 19-ball 37 runs while Divya Partap Singh and Sunil Sharma contributed 21 and 30 runs respectively. Sachin Sharma also played well to add valuable 33 runs. From MBS Babneet Singh was most successful with three wickets, followed by Mandeep Singh, who took two.
Later, chasing a run-rate of near nine-run per over, MBS College made a slow start but picked up in the later stages of the match to make 166 with one wicket in hand. Rajat Sharma played superb innings of 60 (off 31 balls, 1x6, 8x4) runs but it was too late to fight back. Ramandeep also played well contributing 39 runs. Ashwani Kotwal and Opinder Pal Singh took two wickets each from PG Arts.

Ahtsham’s ton guides GGM’s big win

Meanwhile, in another match of the day, GGM Science College registered a big 88 runs win over Government Degree College Bhaderwah to reach the second round of the competition.
Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, Science College set a target of 217 runs for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Bhaderwah College could not chase the total and completed their allotted quota of overs at a score of 129 losing nine wickets.
Ahtsham played magnificent innings of 142 runs off mere 77 deliveries hitting five sixes and 18 boundaries. Amir contributed 34 runs. For hitting a brilliant century, Ahtsham was declared man of the match.
