| JU’s talent contest set to clash with counseling schedule | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 7: One of the biggest cultural events of the Jammu University, “Display Your Talent” is all set to start from October 11, 2010 at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium.
Inaugural ceremony will be held in Gymnasium Hall, near General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu University on October 11, 2010 and rest of the almost all the events would be held in Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium.
Interestingly third phase of counseling-cum-admission for of B Ed course in private colleges affiliated with Jammu University is also scheduled to be held on October 18, 2010. This year, counseling-cum-admission for B Ed was held in Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium instead of General Zorawar Singh Auditorium. It took almost a month.
Dean Student Welfare (DSW) had provided the said auditorium to the Colleges Development Council (CDC) for B Ed counseling on rent. According to sources, earlier the Display Your Talent was scheduled to be inaugurated on September 15, 2010 in Rajinder Singh auditorium. The event was postponed because of the pending enquiry against Dean Student Welfare (DSW) Prof J.S.Tara on the issue of his alleged involvement in thrashing of a scholar by police in the university campus.
In protest, students and scholars ransacked the office of the DSW. As a result of the enquiry, Tara was transferred and Prof N K Tripathi was appointed as new dean in his place on September 1, 2010. After few days his joining, Prof Tripathi repaired office and started working.
This was also one of the main reasons that the Display Your Talent was delayed and the auditorium was given to CDC for counseling. One of the participants of display your talent, while talking to early times said that successful holding of the events would be litmus test for the concerned authorities as dates of both the events is clashing.
Director of College Development Council, Jammu University, Rajiv Gupta refused to comment on the issue. Dean Student Welfare (DSW), N K Tripathi said that the inaugural ceremony of Display Your Talent would be held in Gymnasium Hall, Jammu University. He also said that the events would be held smoothly and that too in the Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium. |
