CS inspects Advance Centre for Horti dev at Ramban

JAMMU, OCTOBER 29
Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog inspected Advance Centre for Horticulture Development, Ramban today. He was accompanied by Director Horticulture, Jammu, Mr. M. S. Qasba.
Ramban Farm is known for production of quality fruit plant material and multiplication of plant material under controlled conditions. Fruit plants of conventional and exotic cultivars are produced/ multiplied at the farm. Colonel root stocks including dwarf, semi-dwarf, vigorous kinds of apple, pear, peach, plum, cherry, quince, grafted and budded walnuts besides different cultivars of Kiwi, Pomegranate, Strawberry and Olive are produced at the farm.
The Chief Secretary had a round of the Farm ad Director Horticulture gave brief resume of the developmental activities going on at the farm for the development of Horticulture in Jammu division. During the current year, 40000 exotic olive plants are being distributed in different parts of the state. Three lakh strawberry runners, 10000 fruit plants of Kiwi, apple, apricot, pear, peach, cherry, etc and 24000 colonel root stocks of apple, quince, cherry and plum are being distributed during the current year.
Mr. C. Phunsog inspected hi-tech Green Houses installed at the Farm where quality fruit plant material is raised under controlled conditions. He also inspected the Olive Oil Extraction Mill installed by the department under Indo- Italian Olive Development Project. The olive orchardists are benefited with the facility of extraction of oil of their produce in the said mill. The Chief Secretary also inspected Kiwi and Olive orchards at the Farm and was impressed with the quality of the kiwi and olive fruit.
After visiting the Farm, the Chief Secretary was impressed with the developmental activities going on in the Farm and issued on spot instructions for their further boosting so that the benefits of all programmes reach to the poor farmers at the ground level.
