Favouritism ,manipulation galore JKPSC: Nirmal Singh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 7: The alleged manipulations in KAS mains examination list has snowballed into a major controversy in Jammu and Ladakh regions leaving the State Government on a sticky wicket which is already grappled with various complex issues. The Bhartiya Janata Party today vociferously raised the issue and launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for alleged discrepancies in the KAS list. Dragging the name of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah into the controversy over alleged manipulations in Kashmir Administrative Service (Mains) examinations, BJP demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter. It also demanded release of a white paper on the appointment made by the Public Service Commission (PSC) since 1975. “Though Jammu Kashmir Public Service Commission is an autonomous body but it has been working like a Government department under great political interference. Favouritism and manipulation galore JKPSC. The list of KAS candidates, who qualified for interviews, had been approved by the Chief Minister and his subordinates,” BJP national executive member, Nirmal Singh told reporters here. . The BJP leader also suspected a “communal angle” in the whole controversy, saying attempts had been made to give benefit to the candidates of a particular community. Demanding bifurcation of the Commission with a separate PSC office for Jammu, Singh alleged the Commission has violated all norms of UPSC to give benefit to a particular section. “It is a part of big conspiracy to enforce political subjugation on Jammu and Ladakh regions as anti-national elements are bent upon turning Jammu and Kashmir a colonial state,” he further alleged. “In response to a government notification of December 30, 2008 of the PSC, about 5000 candidates from Jammu and 3500 from Valley had appeared in examinations. The results showed that nearly 76 per cent candidates were selected from Kashmir while only 24 per cent were hailing from Jammu and Ladakh. Out of total 1260 selected by the PSC for interviews, 516 candidates had Urdu as one of the optional subjects,” the BJP leader maintained. He further said the candidates having Urdu as one of the option subjects were given “wider choice” (five questions out of 15) to attempts questions while the candidates having Anthropology were given only six questions to attempt five of them. “The uneven contest is self-speaking about the communal mindset of authorities at the helm of affairs to give benefit to a particular section of the candidates,” he said, adding “The results declared by the PSC were signed by the Secretary of the Commission as the Controller of Examination never wanted to the part of this mess.” He said the Commission did not publish the names and parentage of the selected candidates like previous practice. “This year the commission had only published roll numbers of the selected candidates. We believed the list was another attempt to maintain political hegemony of Kashmiri leadership on Jammu,” he said.
