| Secret dialogue on! | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 7: In a significant development, the Kashmir affairs in charge in Prime Minister's Office, Prithvi Raj Chauan called on Hurriyat chairman, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq at his Nigeen residence a few days ago.
According to reports, Umer Farooq has admitted the meeting with Prithvi Raj. "I am under house arrest and cannot, therefore, stop anybody from visiting my house", he told a local news agency. "Yes, I talked to Chauan because I have never opposed dialogue. But this type of meetings must yield results", he added.
Reports said the `secret' meeting lasted seven hours. "Prithvi Raj handed over an important message from the Prime Minister to Umer Farooq", it said. Reports suggest that Chauan is in touch with other separatist leaders as well.
Pertinent to mention, the separatist leaders and the public at large have vehemently opposed `secret' dialogue. Senior leader, Fazal Haque Qureshi was shot at last year when the Home Minister, P Chidambaram offered secret dialogue to the separatists. |
