Rs 40 lakh property turns into ashes in Mandi
Fire service attempted but could not save anything due to lack of bridge

rajouri, Oct 7: A businessman of Mandi area of Poonch district suffered a loss of more than 40 lakhs as his house, cash and jewelry turned into ashes when his house caught fire due to short circuit. The fire service could not save anything just at half a kilometer because there was no approach to reach the area due to lakh of bridge.
Sources said that a house belonging to Abdul Aziz son of Mohammad Ramzan in village Azamabad in Mandi tehsil caught fire due to short circuit following which whole of the house collapsed and turned into ashes within hours. Although no loss of life was reported.
As per the owner of the house, he has suffered a loss of more than 40 lakh in this fire incident. "I had five storied house worth Rs 30 lakh besides I was having Rs 8 lakh cash and jewelry of approximately about 10 lakh in the house besides other property", Abdul Aziz said adding that the fire incident has forced him to come on road.
Having a business in Mandi area, Abdul Aziz said that he has taken shelter in a house of neighbourers.
Mandi resident Ishrat Bhat said that fire service station is located at about 2 kilometer away from the spot and although fire service personnel had launched rescue operations yet they could not reach the actual spot due to lack of connecting bridge between the area.
Having population of about 2000 souls living just at a stone throw from Mandi town, the area is having road but the same was not connected with bridge. The residents said the house and property could have been saved if a bridge would have been constructed there. "The incident is alarming red signal for the people as the administration has failed to connect the area with bridge putting the life of the people at risk", Jahangir Ganie, former Sarpanch of the village said adding that there is dire need to connect the area with bridge. He added that patients are facing acute problem due to lack of connectivity in the village and warned that if anybody will die due to acute pain in the area, the local administration will be responsible for the same.
Station House Officer Police Station Mandi Javed Malik when contacted confirmed that a house has caught fire due to short circuit but he said that they are ascertaining the loss of property.
