10/7/2010 11:37:48 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 7: Marshals had to rush in to restore order in the Legislative Assembly when Bhartaya Janata Party (PDP) and Panther's Party (PP) members registered strong protest against Chief Minister's speech of October 6. Omar had said Kashmir had not merged into India and was an International dispute to be settled. The PP chief, Bhim Singh called for Jammu bandh on October 8.
As soon as the proceedings started today, the BJP and PP members rushed to the well and raised slogans against Chief Minister and the Speaker. "If you are not satisfied with India, you better go to Pakistan", BJP leader, Ashok Khajuaria shouted.
The house witnessed a scuffle between the agitated members and Marshals. Chairs, blows and tables were freely exchanged. BJP member from Hira Nagar fell on the floor and injured his head. The members responded by thrashing a Marshal, Ghulam Hasan. He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) where his condition is stated to be stable.
National Conference MLA, Shameema Firdous and Independent member from Langat, Engineer Abdul Rashid offered stiff resistance to the agitating members. "Kashmir is not yours", Shaheema shouted. "Omar has stated the truth. Kashmir is an international dispute and Omar Abdullah has only acknowledged it", Rashid said.
The protesting members were later marshaled out of the house. Later, they were requested to join the proceedings but the refused. "Unless Omar Abdullah tenders an unconditional apology, we will not participate in the proceedings", they said.
However, after one hour the PP members entered the house. Harsh Dev Singh strongly condemned Omar Abdullah's speech. "He should not have used derogatory words against the union Home Secretary", he said.
Accusing Omar of nurturing double standards, Dev said : "He speaks in mild tone in New Delhi. In Jammu Kashmir his pitch rises", he said. The PP members walked out of the house.
The BJP and PP members later addressed the media. "If Sher-e-Kashmir and Farooq Abdullah could not issue such statements, how dare Omar challenge state's accession to India? He is pursuing Hurriyat agenda and we will not allow it. We will launch a massive movement against Omar and the Speaker in the state. Omar must tender an apology and the Speaker must change his attitude", Chaman Lal Gupta said.
"Omar has not only sought rehabilitation of former militants but has left no stone unturned to lower the morale of the security forces", he said adding "This shows he (Omar) is not a true Indian."
Meanwhile, PP chief, Professor Bhim Singh has called for Jammu Bndh on October 8 in protest against Omar's speech.
