Protestors canecharged | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Chief Minister's statement not only received verbal flak from different political parties but his remarks evoked protest demonstrations, dharnas and burning of effigies in several parts of city as well as other areas of Jammu region. Police swung into action to disperse the BJP protestors who were passing through the city while shouting anti-Omar slogans and demanding its resignation. As the protestors tried to burn the effigy of Chief Minister at Purani Mandi Chowk, police swooped upon its activists and restored to mild lathi charge in which seven persons including four women received minor injuries. Five police personnel including a lady cop also sustained injuries in the process. "We were rounded up at two places at Purani Mandi as well as near Women College Parade and were beaten up by the police,' said BJP district Jammu president Rajesh Gupta who led the protest. Protests demonstrations against CM's statement were also reported from Gandhi Nagar, Janipur, Gangyal, Bishnah, RS Pura, Reasi, Udhampur and Ram Nagar. Separate protests were held at these places by BJP and JKNPP activists. |
