EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 7: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's controversial statement on the floor of the House yesterday that J&K had only acceded and not merged with the Union of India has taken the shape of a political storm in J&K and which may have wider repercussions outside the state as well.
It was a day of widespread condemnation of CM's statement as political parties having their foothold in Jammu region minced no words in criticizing Omar.
Earlier in the day, the State Legislative Assembly witnessed complete pandemonium over the issue and marshals had to be called to take the protesting Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) and Jammu State Morcha (JSM) MLAs out of the House.
Reports said that a Panthers Party MLA and three BJP members Jugal Kishore, Sukhnandan and Lal Chand got injured in the ruckus.
Following a strong protest in the State Legislative Assembly by three of the main opposition parties including BJP, JKNPP and JSM over Omar's speech, different political parties vented their ire on Chief Minister's statement here at winter capital of the state.
Bharatiya Janta Party on Thursday strongly demanded for registration of a case under the sedition charges against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his remarks on State challenging its accession with India.
"The chief minister's rhetoric on the floor of assembly challenging state's accession with India amounts to treason and needs to be tried under the rule of law," said BJP national executive member Nirmal Singh.
He said by giving such statement, the Chief Minister has openly admitted his secret alliance with the separatists and secessionists of the valley who too gave the same opinion which qualifies Pakistan agenda being exercised in the valley.
"Such anti national statements from the Chief Minister proves that repetitive questioning of state's accession with India by him is a deliberate attempt to keep his secret agenda on boil for which BJP has to time and again put a strong resistance and uphold that the state is integral part of India," said Nirmal Singh.
The Chief Minister in his assembly speech had said, "J&K had not merged with the Union but acceded to it under an agreement. The Kashmir issue cannot be resolved by addressing development alone. It is a political issue and needs a political solution." He had asked leaders to desist from harping on "Kashmir is an integral part of India"
Vishwa Hindu Parishad too has reacted over the Chief Minister statement and said that while coming up with such statement he has pursued the separatists' agenda towards secessionism.
"Omar Abdullah has proved himself to be the spokesman of Hurriyat," said Ramakant Dubey, President VHP.
Socialistic Democratic Party president Dr Darakhshan Andrabi too joined the bandwagon of those who were in the forefront of criticizing Omar's controversial statement.
"Omar Abdullah's speech on the floor of the Legislative Assembly made yesterday established him as an advocate of separatism, said Dr Darakhshan Andrabi. She said that the frustrated outburst of Omar Abdullah certified that he never belongs to the mainstream within the state and that he was a disorganized separatist. She said that when Omar suspects the authenticity of the state's accession with India, he should openly go and join the separatist camp rather than try to befool the august house and the people.
Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) also strongly condemned Omar for his statement.
BAJ described CM as a mouth piece of Hurriyat Conference.
In an emergent meeting of Bar Association Jammu held under the chairmanship of its President senior Advocate Sunil Sethi took strong exception of the statement of Omar Abdullah.
The statement delivered by CM creates strong believes in the minds of people of J&K that Omar Abdullah while sitting on constitutional post acted against the constitution of India.
BAJ believes that Omar Abdullah after giving this anti-national statement has no moral right to act as Chief Minister of J&K.
Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) too raised strong objection to Omar's statement. JWAM has urged upon the President of India Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to take serious note of the contents of the provocative speech made by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on the Floor of the House.
JWAM President Sunil Dimple demanded Omar's resignation as Chief Minister
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir National Panther Party today gave a call for 'Jammu bandh' tomorrow in protest against the "anti-India and communally provocative statement" by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the State Legislative Assembly.
"We have made an appeal to all the political parties, nationalists, patriotic people, youth and student organisations to observe a joint Jammu bandh tomorrow against anti-national, anti-India and communally provocative statement of Omar Abdullah in Legislative Assembly yesterday," Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) chairman Bhim Singh told reporters here.
We demand withdrawal of the statement of Omar made in the Assembly describing accession by Maharaja Hari Singh in 1947 as conditional agreement thus violating oath of allegiance to the constitution of India that Chief Minister has taken, he said.
It was Omar who raised the bogey of rehabilitation of PoK militants, demoralised security forces and attacked Centre by propagating revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, Singh added.
