JMC conducts drive against adulteration in wake of ensuing festival season

Jammu, Oct 8: Under instructions from Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jammu Sh. S.C. Sawheny, the Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation alongwith team of Food Inspectors inspected various food establishments to check the quality of food items being sold in the city especially during the forthcoming Navratras and Dusshera Festival.
The team inspected various food establishments like sweet shops, milk and milk products shops / vendors, cooked food dhabas / restaurants, cheese shops, etc., in the areas of Bikram Chowk, Nehru Market, Ware House, Jewel, Talab Tillo, Bakshi Nagar, Bahu Fort etc.
During the inspection about 140 food establishments were checked and 47 of defaulters were booked under the provisions of J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 and a fine of Rs. 11,300was charged from the defaulters on spot.
In addition to this, the team also destroyed 50 Kgs of substandard milk, about 15 kg of stale cooked food and 30 kgs of sweets unfit for human consumption on spot.
Besides this, the Municipal Veterinary Officer alongwith field staff conducted a drive against the adulteration of milk in the areas of Talab Tillo, Muthi, Roop Nagar, Paloura, Subash Nagar, Rehari Colony, Sarwal, Panthirthi and 86 milk cans were lifted out which 12 milk cans were sent to the laboratory to check the quality of the milk. The team also destroyed one milk can found of sub-standard quality and a fine of Rs. 2200was also realized from the erring milk vendors on spot. Further continuing the drive to check the menace of stray animals, the team had also visited the areas of Jewel, Panjthirthi, Chowk Choubatra, Railway Road, Channi, Nanak Nagar, Digiana, Satwari, Gandhi Nagar etc., and lifted 13 no's of stray animals from these areas.
The stray animals were impounded in the Municipal Cattle Pound.
An amount of Rs. 2990was also realized from the owners of stray animals.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation once again has asked the food establishment/vendors to ensure supply of pure and fresh products under proper hygienic conditions to the general public failing which strict action shall be taken against them.
Also, the enforcement staff led by Satish Khajuria Chief Enforcement Officer, continued the drive to clear the footpaths , pavements from the encroachments made by the shopkeepers , vendors by keeping goods ,articles thereby causing inconvenience to the pedestrians and also obstructing the free flow of vehicular traffic, in the areas of Old Janipur, Janipur, Subash Nagar, Patoli, Paloura.
