| Sinha calls for mass movement against terrorism | | | JULLUNDER, OCTOBER 29 J&K Governor, Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha today said that the challenge of terrorism can be only met by organizing a mass movement against the scourage. Presiding over a function held by Shaheed Parivaar Fund under the aegis of Hind Samachar Group of Publications here this morning, the Governor said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir yearn for peace and tranquility and the Government is making all out efforts to bring about normalcy in the State. He said along side military action against terrorists, public movement is necessary to defeat their nefarious designs. He elaborated on the measures being taken to win hearts and minds of the people in Kashmir for fighting terrorism effectively. General Sinha complimented the people of Punjab for fighting terrorism unitedly and said the efforts of Non-Governmental Organizations like Punjab Kesri Group cannot be undermined. He said the sacrifices of Lala Jagat Narayan and Mr Ramesh Chander have not gone waste as the people have carried forward their mission of heralding peace and tranquility in the State. The Governor also complimented the Security Forces for fighting terrorism with valour and referred to numerous sacrifices given by the forces in Punjab and Kashmir. Referring to the horrendous days of the partition, General Sinha said that Punjab too witnessed lot of devastation and destruction. He congratulated the Punjab Kesri Group for coming to the rescue of militancy affected families and said this assistance has been given to the border migrants of Jammu also. Union Minister for Power and Energy, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, former Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr Prakash Singh Badal and former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Mr Shanta Kumar were among those who addressed the gathering. They, including the Governor General Sinha, flagged off a relief truck for the militancy affected people. Earlier, General Sinha was warmly received by senior civil and military officers at the Air Force Station, Aadampur in Jullunder.
