Six fruit boxes of fire-fitted grey material found near MLA hoste | One suspect picked up for questioning | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 8: Designed to resemble bombs, six fruit boxes of grey material, all fitted with wires, were this evening recovered from near the high-security MLA hostel here. The boxes were lying unclaimed. Panic, however, gripped the MLA hostel and its adjoining areas soon after the news spread that there could be bombs in the boxes. Vehicular traffic was at once diverted to alternate routes and halted at certain points. A police team reached the spot at about 5.45 pm along with a bomb disposal squad. "Soon after we got information as regards the mysterious objects lying on the footpath close to the MLA hostel, cops and police bomb disposal squad were rushed to the spot," DIG Farooq Khan told reporters. He said that six fruit boxes were lying abandoned on the footpath, which were opened by the bomb disposal squad."A grey material fitted with wires was recovered from the boxes, which will be sent to FSL for examination," the DIG added. He, however, claimed, "It is sure that the material is neither an improvised explosive device (IED) nor an explosive material."No timer, or detonator was found attached with the wires, which showed that it was not an IED, he added."It is a serious matter and we are looking into it as Pakistan misses no opportunity to disrupt peace and create terror among the people here," the DIG said. The matter was being investigated, he added.Meanwhile, due to the disruption of vehicular traffic, long traffic jams were witnessed in the city.Though DIG did not confirm it, police sources said police had identified three suspects, who were alleged to have dropped the boxes near the MLA hostel. One of the suspects was said to have been picked up by special operation group of police for questioning, the sources added. |
