Awareness programme on disaster management organised | | | Early Times Report Akhnoor, Oct 9: Government Degree College (GDC) Akhnoor in collaboration with Civil Defence Department, Jammu organised two days awareness programme on disaster management. National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadets Corps (NCC) units of College organized and hosted this awareness programme. Deputy Divisional Warden, Civil Defence, Jammu Alok Nanda, along with his team comprising of D.N. Ganju, Ram Chand, Sudershan Saini, Shiban as well as Kuldeep Kour, social worker, from Civil Defence, Akhnoor, delivered two days awareness programme on disaster management to NSS volunteers and NCC cadets of college. Civil Defence team made the students aware about various types of disasters and their management. They explained how a person can save lives of others while saving his or her own life during natural and anthropogenic disasters. While involving the students, the experts demonstrated various rescue operations including fires, earth quakes, road accidents, or heart attack, and providing them first aid including bandage techniques, treatment of bleeding areas, preparation of temporary stretchers, transferring causalities from multi-storey buildings by ropes and ladders, etc. Principal of College, Dr. Kaushal Smotra, addressed the welcome note and also highlighted the need of knowledge of disaster management among common masses particularly the youth and students. Prof. Rohini Jamwal, officer In-charge N.S.S. of College briefed the audience about the programme whereas Prof. (Lt.) Angana Sharma, ANO – NCC at College, presented vote of thanks.
