Congress should shed lust for power and safeguard state: BJP
10/9/2010 9:39:21 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 9: The Congress leaders should shed their lust for power and prove their nationalist credentials by snapping ties with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir.
This was stated by BJP state spokespersons Ramesh Arora and Nirmal Kamal while addressing media persons at party headquarters today.
“How unfortunate it is that the state has been pushed towards constitutional crisis due to the irresponsible and anti-constitutional statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Congress remained mute spectator during the entire period”, said BJP spokespersons. They reminded Omar Abdullah that like other 545 princely states, Jammu and Kashmir also acceded to Union of India under the same Instrument of Accession as was signed by others.
Taking a dig on Chief Minister- Omar Abdullah, the Union Home Minister-P C Chidambaram and other Congress leaders at New Delhi, both the spokespersons were surprised at their ignorance about the Constitutional reality of the historic event.
Part II, Section 3 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir which clarifies the relationship of the State with the Union of India clearly states “the State of J&K is and shall be an integral part of the Union of India”.
Moreover, after commencement of the Constitution of J&K on January 26, 1957, several elections were conducted in the state when Omar Abdullah’s grandfather and father also contested, which too authenticated that they had full faith in the constitution.
In addition to it, when the Constitution itself has cleared the relationship of the State with India, there seems no justification in questioning the accession on one pretext or the other, both the spokespersons said.
“Having failed to provide accountable governance, the State Chief Minister is raking up such issues to divert the attention of the masses and escape its wrath. Infact, Omar Abdullah should have taken lessons from some school on Constitution before making such childish comment,” the both alleged.
The BJP spokespersons said that in light of what the Constitution says, any one who indulge in such activities like Omar Abdullah, tantamount to insult of the Constitution and no one should be spared for committing such a grave crime.
Urging the State Governor N.N. Vohra to take cognizance of what Omar Abdullah has uttered, they said that Governor should fulfill his constitutional obligation by recommending the Union government to immediately sack Omar Abdullah and impose Governor’s rule in the state.
