HC recommends Ex-Gratia relief | Compensation for 1984 riots | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, October-09 (JNF):- A single bench of the high court comprising Justice Sunil Hali recommended ex-gratia in favour of the petitioner, one of the victims of the 1984 riots. In a petition filed by Kulwant Singh in which it has been submitted that there are recommendations in favour of the petitioner that he is entitled to receive the ex-gratia compensation for having suffered during communal right of 1984. He has placed on record the recommendations of Division Commissioner Jammu dated August 16, 2007, recommending that sanction be accorded for grant of ex-gratia relief in favour of the petitioner. It is also submitted that Deputy Commissioner Kathua vide his communication dated July 28, 2009 has also recommended the case of the petitioner for release of Rs 2 lacs as Ex-Gratia relief in favour of the petitioner. Advocate Sudershan Sharma appearing for the petitioner submitted that a direction be issued to the respondents to expedite the case of the petitioner. The court issued notice which was accepted by AAG AH Qazi on behalf of the state and KK Pangotra ASGI on behalf of Union of India and with the consent of counsels for the parties, this petition was admitted to hearing and disposed of with directions to respondents to consider the case of the petitioner for grant of sanction for payment of ex-gratia relief and released the same in favour of the petitioner, within a period of two months from the date of this order is served upon them.
