| Diwali arrangements discussed at Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 9: District Development Commissioner, Jammu, M K Dwivedi today convened a meeting of the officers of various departments and discussed the arrangements for Diwali celebrations here.
Spot identification for the sale of crackers was deliberated upon in the meeting and it was decided that special arrangements for the same would be made at Dusherra Ground at Gandhinagar, Area behind Rivera Hotel etc.
DDC asked the enforcement agencies to strictly monitor and deal accordingly with any person involved in selling of crackers without license or at non-permissible sites.
The DCC also called for imposing restrictions on sale of crackers causing noise and air pollution beyond permissible limit.
PHE and PDD departments were directed to ensure regular water and electricity supply respectively during the festive season. PHE was also directed to ensure water tankers at the site for sale of crackers. Municipal authorities were impressed upon to maintain sanitation and cleanliness in the city. Fire Services Department has been directed to remain vigilant during the festival days. Medical Superintendents of Hospitals have been directed to make special arrangements of ambulances and medical staff to meet any eventuality.
Civil Defence was asked to make provision for ambulances and volunteers at the sites identified for sale of crackers. Adequate supply of ration, security arrangements etc were entrusted to the concerned departments.
Information Department was entrusted with the task of spreading awareness through print and electronics media about safe handling of fire crackers and guidelines to be followed while enjoying the festival.
Dwivedi also issued the directions regarding putting up of stalls for the sale of crackers under the joint supervision of Divisional Officer of Fire Services and Joint Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation.
Present in the meeting were ADC Jammu, D R Sharma and other senior officers of various departments.
