| Staging of Ramlila resumed in Basantgarh after 16 years | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Basantgarh (Udhampur), Oct 9: There was special spring in the stride of public at Basantgarh today evening when the staging of Ramlila was re-started at Basantgarh.
This has become possible under the keen and unique initiative of Sub Divisional Magistrate Dudu-Basantgarh who encouraged upon the locals to revive this age old tradition of organizing Ramlila.
Only one and half decade ago people belonging to all communities, castes and religions used to arrange the event every year , but the practice was stopped with the onslaught of militancy in the area as elsewhere in the state.
But with the constant persuation, guidance and support extended by administration headed by SDM Amit Sharma and with the high spirits of younger lot amongst the general public, the Dogra Cultural Club of Basantgarh was revived and the collections were made on whirlwind basis and new actors were empanelled on the rolls of this club for performance of Ramlila at Basantgarh this year.
Not only this, youngsters of both the communities were enrolled in the Club who underwent constant practice sessions under the able guidance of veterans who once used to attract huge public. The dream was finally realised when the Ramlila was organized, fighting all odds of venue availability, power back up and hostile weather conditions today
The Ramlilla also attracted a large crowed and nobody left the venue till the conclusion of first day’s event.
The actors and organizers were local youngsters, teachers, businessmen, students and even amateur artists belonging to all sections of society and communities.
