Leh on Guinness World Record

Leh, Oct 10: 'Live to Love" in collaboration with Common Wealth Games Delhi today initiated a mass plantation drive at Changa village which is nearly 40 km away from Leh town.
His Holiness Dukpa Rinpoche Chairman of 'Live to Love' flagged off the drive at exactly 10 hours 10minute and at 10 seconds.
In this mass plantation drive nearly nine thousands volunteers planted more than fifty thousands saplings in less than one hour, which create a new world record. Earlier it was Peru which planted forty thousand siblings in one hour by eight thousands volunteers.
Thousands of volunteers kept coming at Changa Village since early morning. People were coming in trucks, buses and in their private cars. More than fifteen thousand volunteers reached the spot before 10 o clock in the morning but not all got the chance to plant the saplings as only nine thousands was allowed to participate in the drive.
A team of three members from Guinness World Record was there to monitor the things. They provided forms to each team to collect information. It was expected to plant fifty thousand siblings in one hour but the volunteers did it in nearly half hours. The Chairman and Adjudicator of the Gunnies World Record team Ms Tarika Vara announced that nine thousands people have successfully planted fifty thousand three hundred siblings in less than one hour which is a new world record hence awarded the Gunnies World Record award to Leh.
Addressing a public gathering after the mass plantation drive His Holiness the Dukchen Rinpoche said the mass plantation drive is not meant for any section of society neither it is for any region it is a humanitarian work in which people from all religion and region participated.
It is a drive to preserve the world environment. He said that in recent past Leh has witnessed a devastation which we cannot stop completely in future but can minimize the impact by plantation. Today if we plant a single sapling here in Leh the benefit will be received by whole world.
"Today on 10th of Oct. 2010, which is celebrated world wide as Earth day, at 10 hour 10 minute and at 10 seconds we have created a World Record by successfully planting more than fifty thousand siblings here at Changa village by nine thousands volunteers in less than one hour" said the chairman of the organizer
On the occasion beside many other leaders, BJP leader and former Rajasthan chief Minister Vasundar Raje Shindia was also present.
Everybody appreciated the move and appealed the world community to follow the foot step of Leh in order to preserve the environment.
