Omar’s remarks tantamount to challenging nation’s integrity: BJP
10/10/2010 10:46:25 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 10: The speech of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah over accession with Union of India is just not a controversial statement of facts alone but also tantamount to challenging of the very integrity of the country. Thus, it has rightly met with a severe reaction of the nationalist India and that of the State itself.
It was alleged by leader of BJP Legislature Party Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, while addressing a Pres Conference along with other MLAs at party headquarters here today.
The Congress cannot escape the responsibility of this obnoxious act of the leader who is heading the coalition with their party, more so, in the Assembly itself. He in his speech had also asserted that his Council of Ministers, is not a puppet of New Delhi. This means he is having the assent of Congressmen also for his observations.
Mere dismissing the act of Omar Abdullah by some senior leaders of the Congress by saying that the utterances were "childish", is not sufficed. The person is holding the most important position and his observations, that too, in the State Assembly, cannot be taken lightly.
In the light of the utterances of the Chief Minister, as far as the BJP is concerned, Jammu and Kashmir is an inseparable part of India. Hence, its future is non-negotiable.
Chaman Lal Gupta said, “We wanted to register our dissent in the Assembly itself during the course of his speech but the Speaker did not allow us to do so and at the end of this speech, the House was adjourned abruptly.”
“The next day, on October 7, we tried to avail the first opportunity to voice our disapproval. It was unfortunate that the Speaker acted in a partisan manner and instead of allowing the BJP and some others to air their views, the Speaker ruled to Marshal us out resulting in injuries to four of our colleagues. This led to boycott of the House.” he added
Yesterday before the adjournment of the Assembly sine-die, hurriedly several bills have been passed, more so, in the absence of the entire opposition. This eagerness on part of the Coalition also speaks volumes.
Party MLA Ashok Khajuria said that the way the Congress is supporting the NC for the sake of chair is not in the nation’s interests.
MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma also condemned the use of Marshals to supress the voice of the nationalist forces. He declared that their team of 11 will not allow the Budget Session to work smoothly in Jammu till Omar Abdullah do not withdraw his remarks prejudicial to the unity and integrity of the country.
