PDP flays govt denying relief to flood affected families
10/10/2010 10:53:45 PM
ARLY TIMES REPORT
Billawar, (Kathua), Oct 10: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today flayed the State Government for not sanctioning relief to the families affected by the recent rains and floods in Kathua district.
Addressing series of public meetings at Billawar, Pallan, Sukrala and other areas on the last day of this tour, PDP general secretary Thakur Balbir Singh rued that even after passing two months State Government has not taken any step to conduct survey at ground level to assess losses due to the floods and rains during this year’s monsoon in Kathua district. “Ministers and other senior officers while visiting the affected areas had promised that relief would be given to the affected families after the survey within a stipulated time but these promises remained only on papers”, he regretted and added that except promises this regime has done nothing for the people.
PDP general secretary said that a large number of people have become homeless due to heavy rains during this year’s monsoon but government has done nothing to provide shelter to these homeless people.
Thakur Balbir Singh regretted that achievements of this government appeared only on papers as this regime has done nothing on the grounds. Contesting claims of the government, he said most of the schools in Billawar area have been functioning without teaching staff. Helpless people of the areas have repeatedly brought the issue of the shortage of teaching staff to the notice of the concerned authorities but nothing has been done so far. He said that lecturers have not appointed in most of the higher secondary schools and students of this backward area have been bearing brunt of the wrong policies of the government.
PDP general secretary also expressed his concern over non-functioning of the MNREGA scheme in this belt. Most of the card holders under MNREGA are without any jobs due to bungling in the scheme, he said and regretted that it failed to improve conditions of poor people in this belt.
