Suraj, Rajiv retains titles in State Sport Climbing

JAMMU, October 11: Suraj Singh and Rajiv Sharma retained their titles in Men’s and Boys categories respectively while sub-junior boys trophy went to Ashish Kapoor in the 10th J&K State Sport Climbing Championship held at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here.
In the men’s section, Anil Kumar, a tall and powerful climber gave tough competition to the defending champion, Suraj Singh. Both topped the 40ft high wall but Suraj was emerged winner on the basis of less time taken by him.
The results in the boys and sub-junior boys’ categories were on the expected lines with Rajiv Sharma, a national medalist and Ashish Kapoor, a national climber, winning the titles.
Earlier, a record number of 253 climbers from various districts of the state participated in the two–day championship. The chief guest on the concluding day of the competition, Ram Khajuria, secretary, North Zone Sport Climbing Committee while praising the performance of the climbers especially from Udhampur and Reasi districts complimented the organizers Mountaineering Association of J&K for providing an opportunity to the young and budding climbers from far flung areas, to excel.
The competition was successfully conducted with technical assistance of North Zone Sport Climbing Committee, New Delhi and under the overall supervision of Sumit Khajuria. Shawetica Khajuria, a sport climbing judge, Neha Dutta, Ritesh, Akshit Mahajan and Punit Sharma were the other local officials.
The Detailed Results: Men: Suraj Singh, Ist; Anil Kumar, 2nd and Akshay Sadhotra, third. Women: Rinchen Angmo, Ist; Shiny Khajuria, 2nd and Sugandha Sharma, third. Boys: Rajiv Sharma, Ist; Deepak Saini, 2nd and Shashi Kant, third. Girls: Roopali Sharma, Ist; Shazia Kausar and Romika Thakur, joint 2nd and Upasana Abrol, third. Sub-junior boys: Ashish Kapoor, Ist; Atul Singh, 2nd and Vishal Thapa, third. Sub-junior girls: Bindia Sharma, Ist; Sonali Sharma, 2nd and Mamta Devi, third.
