| Legal literacy camp organised | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Udhampur, Oct 11: On the occasion of World Mental Health Day ,a legal literacy camp was organised at District hospital, Udhampur . The camp was organised under the supervision of A.K Sharma, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority and M..K. Sharma, CJM, Udhampur .
Speaking in the camp, Advocate Amit Sharma delivered legal knowledge performing to the rights and protection of mentally challenged persons in the society . Speakers highlighted the aims and objects incorporated in the Mental Health Act, 1987.
They said those who are suffering from mental disorder continue to be ill-treated and exploited and their property, if any, was often in danger of being swindled away. So, the State Legal Services Authority has decided to come to the rescue of mentally ill persons of the state and a day before Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Dr Aftab H Saikia, who is also Chairman and patron of the State Legal Services Authority, has launched the project “COMPASSION”.
Under this project, a three-pronged strategy shall be adopted for providing relief to the mentally challenged. First, persons needing help will be enlisted. Second, assessment of the help required in each case will be made. Finally, assessment of the availability of the resource will be done. A large number of patients and staff members were also presented on the occasion.
