GCW Parade’s Mahak bags first prize Flower show

JAMMU, Oct 11: The first phase of the “Display Your Talent” 2010-11, an Inter-Collegiate/Departmental extravaganza, being organized by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, commenced with the Flower Arrangement Competition. Prof Varun Sahni, Vice-Chancellor, inaugurated the contest by lighting the ceremonial lamp in an impressive function held at Gymnasium.
In his inaugural address Prof Varun Sahni, underlined the need of participation in the Extra Curricular activities. He said that these activities are imperative to broaden the horizon, develop a spirit of competition as well as togetherness. He exhorted the younger generation to practice and work hard in their respective fields whether it may be Fine Arts, Literary, Music, Dance or Theatre. Hard work and devotion is the only key to the success. There is no short-cut.
Sylvia A Sahni, wife of Vice Chancellor also paid a special visit to the venue and appreciated the work done by the participants. She also complemented the organizers.
Mehak Bakshi from Govt Women College, Parade was adjudged first in the said event while Mobeen Sayeed from Govt Women College, Gandhi Nagar and Rajni form the Govt Medical College, Jammu clinched the Second and Third Prize respectively. The Certificates of Merit were awarded to Kanwar Iqbal from the Govt Medical College, Jammu and Ritika Pathania from Department of English, University of Jammu.
K.K. Sharma, Dr Raj Kumar and Sandhra Malhotra, were amongst the adjudicators. Dr. Sanjay Sharma, was the Teacher Incharge for the Flower Arrangement.
Earlier Prof N.K. Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare in his welcome address said that the Department shall make efforts for providing all type of assistance and facilities to the students for displaying their creative pursuits.
Prof Versha Mehta, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee while presenting the vote of thanks dwelt on the various events to be organized in addition to the routine activities. She further said that the Campus Cultural Committee shall try to give a new fillip to the activities of the Campus.
The competition was conducted under the overall supervision of Vijay Atri, Assistant Dean, Cultural Affairs.
Dr P S Pathania, Registrar, Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dalip Singh, President, JUTA and teacher Incharge from various institutions were also present.
