62 yrs, and rural areas still long for development | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 11: Despite 62 years of independence, the people of country particularly the state of Jammu and Kashmir are still deprived of the basic amenities of life. The condition is more worrisome in the rural areas of the state. The government has failed to meet the promises made to its people during the elections. The developmental authorities need to have a look for development in villages like Toka in Keran area of Jammu; Kheri and Chak in Nagrota constituency; and Baba Peher and some other villages of Katra area. In these areas, the road connectivity is worst and heavy difficulties in acquiring the facilities of water and electricity. Locals of these villages alleged that the government was least concerned about them, as they belong to far flung areas of the state and had failed to provide even the basic amenities like water and electricity. They further said that due to the lack of these facilities they have to face many difficulties. Even local MLAs do not raise their voice in the Legislative Assembly regarding the plight of these villages. They just visit their areas at the time of elections. Condition is also worst in villages of Purmandal block adjacent to the winter capital. One can clearly see the negligence of the village by the authorities as even after so many years of the independence, less development has been made by the government. The government authorities are only attended towards the urban areas and thus the rural areas lack behind them. This is the condition when the leaders very often saying that India lives in villages.
