Jammu migrants deprived of relief, benefits, allege JMF | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 11 : Migrants of Jammu Province have been undergoing great hardships due to callous attitude of the Central and State governments in sanctioning relief and other benefits in their favour despite the court directions in this regard from time to time. This was stated by Mohd Aslam Kohli, president of Jammu Migrant Front while addressing media persons here today. Dismayed over the attitude of the state government for sanction of relief and other benefits, he said that they are left with no option but to proceed to New Delhi to gherao the Parliament of India and urge upon the Union Government to come to their rescue. He said that due to eruption of militancy in the state in 1990s people from valley especially minorities and political activists as well as minorities from various areas of Jammu province particularly Poonch, Rajouri, Doda. Baderwah, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi. Udhampur were forced to leave their native areas and live under miserable and sub-human conditions in Jammu and elsewhere ‘It is sad that Kashmiri migrants were provided relief and ration items but the migrants from Jammu province were denied the same’, he mentioned, adding, migrants are migrants whether from Jammu or Kashmir, they should be treated in same category. He further mentioned that Supreme Court of India and High Court J&K, in their interim directions have impressed upon the state government to treat the migrants of Jammu province on the analogy of Kashmiri migrants in respect of sanction of relief and other benefits, but the state government is reluctant to implement the court directions as a result of which they have been living in miserable and despondent lives. Kohli added that since last four years they were on dharna outside Divisional Commissioner’s office at Jammu but unfortunately no one had paid heed to address the just and genuine demand of 115 families from LoC.
