NSUI demand concession in travel fare for students | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 12: National Student Union of India (NSUI) on Monday demanded concession for student community in travel fare. In a meeting of NSUI held under the chairmanship of state general secretary NSUI, Arjun Singh Pathania to discuss the problem faced by students, it was strongly taken into notice that that most of the buses and minibuses do not affix rate list and they are charging basic fare invariably. Chetan Misri, state secretary NSUI alleged that the mini-bus operators are charging about 400 per cent extra from student community. It was also reported by some NSUI members that some buses designating themselves as super fast buses are charging full fare from students. It was also observed that the NSUI has appealed to concerned transport authorities to ensure the fixture of travel-fare list including student deductions as soon as possible in every transport vehicle. “In addition to this, the transport department should publish helpline numbers which receive passengers’ complaints about transport irregularities. Also discipline measures like uniform, name plate and decent behavior should be enforced,” they said. It was discussed that if reforms are not implemented, the NSUI would launch an agitation against transport authorities. Some other issues like delayed results of distance education student, inadequate staff etc were also discussed.
