Security Forces killed more than 220 militants till Sept

Jammu, Oct 12: A day after Indian Army Chief Gen VK Singh said that infiltration bids are on the rise during the past two months official sources in Jammu said, "in the first nine months of 2010 the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have eliminated more than 220 militants, at least 40 more than the total number of militants killed during the same period in year 2009".
Following fresh reports of infiltration the security force have been directed to maintain a tight vigil along the border ahead of winter months.
According to official sources the first nine months of year 2010 have not only recorded increasing incidents of ceasefire violations but also recorded increase in the number of killings over the previous year during the corresponding period.
According to official sources, " more than 220 militants have been eliminated by the security forces in large number of encounters across the state and at the time of attempting infiltration along the line of control and the International border in the first nine months of 2010".
More than 40 incidents of ceasefire violations have already taken place during the first nine months of 2010.
Maximum number of 42 militants, 16 along the Line of Control and 26 in the hinterland in September across Kashmir valley.
Compared to this during the first nine months of year 2009, 185 militants were killed by the security forces and less than 30 ceasefire violations took place in 2009.
During first nine months of 2010 high percentage of top commanders were eliminated due to better degree of coordination between different security agencies and precise intelligence inputs.
In these operations at least 61 security personnel have also sacrificed their lives while 32 civilians lost their lives. Compared to this 50 security personnel were killed in first nine months of 2009 and 44 civilians had lost their lives in incidents of militant related violence.
