| Samaj Kalyan holds annual scholarship function | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 12: Annual scholarship and awards distribution function was held here today in the school premises of Jammu and Kashmir Samaj Kalyan Kendra Secondary School for hearing and speech handicapped boys and girls for the year 2009-2010.
The function was held in the presence of an impressive number of Kendra members, parents and students. Annual Pushpa Devi Bhagotra Scholarship of Rs.2400 was awarded to 3 girls namely Khushbo, Baljeet Kour, Ruchi Devi and 2 boys namely Vijay, Prasuar of class 4th and one girl Piya of class 3rd on the basis of poverty cum merit.
In addition, two more students, one boy and one girl, Rakesh Kumar of Udhampur and Sabiha Shad of Rajouri received scholarship of Rs.600 and Rs.1000 respectively. Judge Harbans Lal Bhagotra Annual Awards of Rs.1200 each were awarded to Manish Kumar and Shafalika Sharma of class 10th and Jyoti Devi and Sunil Kumar of class 9th.
These two scholarships/awards have been constituted by V.K.Bhagotra in the memory of his parents. Scholarship and awards were given away by Inderjeet Khajuria, V.K.Bhagotra, Nasir Khan and Prem Gupta. Others who attended the function included J.K.Vaid, Sat Pal Khajuria, Krishan Singh and V.K.Sharma besides faculty members and staff. Fruits and sweets were distributed to school children on culmination of function.
Event was covered with photography for record and cherished memories of the awardees. J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra imparts free formal and vocational education to the hearing and speech challenged boys and girls in its Secondary School for Hearing Handicapped at Shahidi Chowk Jammu. Most of the students belong to very poor families. Some donors like Bhagotra have instituted scholarships and awards to help the poorest of the poor students of the school. There are some other scholarships due for distribution which will be done shortly, inviting the donors also for their personal participation in the event.
