Jammu Bus Stand short of parking space | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Oct 12: While the festive season is on, there are no proper arrangements for parking of the passenger buses at General Bus Stand Jammu. Buses bound to other states and particularly to Katra, Udhampur can be seen parked outside General Bus Stand on the ever busy B.C.road. Because of these buses, traffic Jams have become a routine affair. The bus stand experiences heavy rush of the buses which includes both inter-state and intra-district buses which are mostly parked outside the bus stand. These days when Navratras are going on, situation is becoming grim since thousands of pilgrims come to the General Bus Stand to board bus for Katra. It is pertinent to mention here that many buses depart from outside the bus stand on Jammu- Katra, Jammu-Udhampur, Jammu-Srinagar, Jammu-Doda, Jammu-Kathua and many other state routes. It is usually seen that at even Indira Chowk and outside the General Bus Stand, bus parking has turned the road into another bus stand. Recently, huge consignment of explosives was recovered from Indira Chowk. It needs no mention that the manner in which buses are parked in this area, possibility of a mishap cannot be ruled out. SHO General Bus Stand Police Station Parvez Sajjad affirmed that parking buses on the road outside the bus stand is illegal but due to acute shortage of parking space, buses have to be parked outside. He further added that the state government is working on a proposal to shift general bus stand to Transport Nagar in Narwal but this would take some time. “We are maintaining strict vigil on the movement of individuals as well as screening suspicious things if found unclaimed anywhere in our area,” added Parvez Sajjad.
